Saint Apollonia – Patron Saint of Dentists and Protector Against Toothache
Saint Apollonia is one of the most important martyrs of early Christianity and is venerated as the patron saint of dentists, dental technicians, and all those suffering from toothache.
Life and Martyrdom
Saint Apollonia lived in the 3rd century AD in Alexandria, Egypt. She was a consecrated virgin and deaconess, deeply devoted to the Christian faith.
During the persecutions under Emperor Decius, she was arrested and subjected to severe torture. Her teeth were violently pulled out, and she was threatened with being burned alive if she refused to renounce her faith. She remained steadfast and ultimately threw herself into the flames, thus achieving martyrdom.
In the early Church, her death was initially debated, but she was soon recognized as a saint and became a powerful symbol of unwavering faith and sacrifice.
